By now, you know how much I love writing about pubs, because let’s be honest, there’s nothing more enjoyable in this city (especially in winter) than spending time in these sanctuaries. London is full of pubs, from small local boozers to extraordinary historic landmarks. And for relatively new dog owners like myself, few things are better than enjoying a pint with your furry companion by your side. However, not all of these establishments welcome our foured-leg friends the same way (or not at all), which is a shame. Thankfully, East and North London are filled with fantastic dog-friendly pubs, from well-loved favourites to hidden gems.

Since stepping into the world of dog ownership, I’ve realised that going out in this city requires a bit more strategy. I’ve had a few moments where bringing my little furry friend along just wasn’t an option, frustrating to say the least. But fear not! So, whether you’re after a cosy corner for a quiet drink or a lively beer session where dogs are treated better than humans (yes, staff members often shower them with love), this short guide has you covered.

Disclaimer:

Some of the pubs on this list I haven’t visited in a while or in some cases, not at all. But that’s part of the fun of exploring London pubs. Between my own research and experience and recommendations from others, these are places worth checking out.

The Prince 🔗| Stoke Newington

Just a few blocks from my place, The Prince is a charming Victorian pub that has become a local favourite for dog owners. With its chilled vibe, welcoming staff, amazing selection of beer and delicious Sunday roasts, it’s an ideal spot for a relaxed afternoon drink with your pup.

The Lord Palmerston 🔗| Tufnell Park

Somehow, I still haven't visited this gastropub which is as welcoming to dogs as it is to their owners. With a relaxed atmosphere, excellent Sunday roasts, and plenty of space for your pup to settle in, it’s a great spot to unwind with good food and drinks.

The Red Lion & Sun 🔗| Highgate

Apparently this is a true North London gem. This award-winning pub, known for its warm atmosphere and dog-friendly approach, boasts not one but two spacious beer gardens, a fab food menu, and staff who are always ready with water and treats for their four-legged guests.

The Victoria 🔗 | Mile End

Have I been living under a rock? As a seafood lover, I can’t believe I didn’t know about this hidden gem. Located close to one of my favourite parks in London, The Victoria is a seafood gastropub that warmly welcomes dogs. With a spacious garden, a great selection of craft beers, and market-fresh seafood paired with cocktails, it’s the perfect place for both humans and doggies.

People's Park Tavern 🔗 | Victoria Park

Right next to Victoria Park, People’s Park Tavern is a well-known local boozer with a lively atmosphere. And for dogs it’s a true haven, thanks to its amazing garden with direct access to the park, thus making it the perfect spot to enjoy a pint after or before a walk.

The Albion 🔗 | Islington

This one’s no secret as The Albion has been in the spotlight for years. Tucked away in a quiet corner close to Upper Street, this Georgian pub boasts a spacious garden that’s ideal for a relaxed afternoon, particularly for our furry friends during the warmer months.

The Axe 🔗 | Stoke Newington

I’ve been to The Axe a few times, and the best part is definitely their fantastic craft beer selection and cool vibe. Dogs are always welcome, and the friendly staff ensure they get plenty of attention, making it the perfect spot to unwind with a pint and your dog.

The Maynard Arms 🔗 | Crouch End

In the heart of Crouch End, The Maynard Arms is a beautifully refurbished pub that feels like a breath of fresh air. I’ve visited a few times for Sunday roasts, and every time it’s been a great experience. Their beer garden is ideal for lazy afternoons, offering the perfect setting where both you and your dog can kick back, relax, and enjoy a pint.

The Duke of Hamilton 🔗| Hampstead

What seems to be a proper gem in Hampstead, The Duke of Hamilton is a cosy pub with a rich history and an inviting atmosphere for both dogs and their owners. After a fantastic walk on Hampstead Heath, this seems to be the perfect place to continue. The pub serves up delicious food sourced from local providers (such as The Hampstead Butcher), has a fantastic selection of craft beers and wines, and to top things off, it has a jazz club. I can't wait to make this new discovery a regular stop after walking my little pup in Hampstead Heath!

The Lord Stanley 🔗| Camden

Last but not least, what's been my local boozer for more than a decade. No further description needed :).

If you're on the hunt for a lively pub with a beer garden or a chill spot to relax after a walk with your dog, East and North London have loads of dog-friendly pubs to check out. Next time you're out for a drink, why not bring your pup along and discover one of these awesome spots?
